Body knowledge and acceptance spans far beyond a woman’s size, shape and color. It encompasses a whole variation of body comfort and a woman’s comfort with- YES- her vagina.
Chances are you fall into one of four categories:
- Heck yes I am totally comfortable with my vagina; wanna see?
- I am comfortable with my vagina but no one needs to know that
- I am comfortable with having a vagina but I don’t want to touch or look at it
- Vagina…don’t even say that word around me
In order to use the FemmyCycle, you will need to not only know your own physical anatomy in a very intimate way, but you will need to feel comfortable enough to properly insert and remove the menstrual cup. You will also need to feel comfortable with the idea of seeing your menstrual blood in a cup versus on a pad or tampon.
For some women, this is not a life altering event, yet for others, they may have some discomfort to move past.
Firstly, it is important that women understand normal female anatomy and function. The best way to become comfortable with your body is to grab a mirror and take a look. Not all women’s genitals look the same, however, typically the appearance and important landmarks are similar.
What you cannot see by looking at a mirror includes the vagina, the cervix, the uterus, Fallopian tubes and the ovaries. Many women are shocked to find out that the vagina (the passage way from the vulva to the cervix) is not a tunnel that stays open. In fact, the walls of the vagina actually collapse and touch one another! You will notice this when you insert the FemmyCycle.
At the top of the vagina sits the cervix. The cervix is the lowermost part of the uterus which allows for the passage of menstrual blood, cervical mucous and a baby through a small, expandable hole called the os. The cervix also allows for sperm to enter into the uterus to reach the Fallopian tubes – where fertilization occurs after an egg is released from one of the ovaries.
The uterus is the pear shaped organ that allows for the growth of a fetus. Unless pregnancy has occurred, the uterine lining sheds each month causing a menstrual period. That’s where your FemmyCycle comes in!
You will need to find your cervix and measure the distance between the vaginal opening and the cervix itself in order to get the correct size FemmyCycle. Needless to say, you will need to feel comfortable “getting to know your vagina” on a whole new level. For some women, this is not a problem; for others, the task can be intimidating.

We want you to know that your vagina and menstruation are NORMAL. There is nothing to be ashamed of or hide about having a healthy and functioning reproductive system. Menstruation is a normal experience that needs to be destigmatized here in the US as well as abroad. We want to reiterate…
Vaginas are great and so are periods!
