Yesterday, May 28th was Menstrual Hygiene Day 2019, and what a day it was!
Across the globe, millions of people took part in dismantling the stigma attached to menstruation in a variety of ways.
Here are some highlights of this wonderful day, reminding us that a future liberated from menstrual stigma is already being created around the world.
- Firstly, our favorite non-profit @PeriodMovement joined with @MakersWomen to raise money towards ending period poverty. Period Poverty is an epidemic that affects billions of girls globally. Limited access to menstrual products keep girls and women out of school and out of work. That’s why yesterday, PERIOD. launched the fundraiser with the goal of raising $28 thousand to honor the 28 day menstrual cycle! The number is still open, just text GIVEPERIOD to 44321 to donate!!!
- MenstrualHygieneDay.org released a wonderful video that was the result of asking thousands of people around the globe to lend their voices to the cause. They also mentioned that this year’s Menstrual Hygiene Day would be the biggest in history; a projected 41.4 MILLION girls learned about their periods yesterday! THAT is worth celebrating! Check out their international video, and we guaranteed you’ll feel inspired!
- Even Kourtney Kardashian contributed to the conversation around ending period stigma! On her online platform, she invited her followers to talk with their sons and young boys to talk openly about menstruation, commenting “The Source of Life shouldn’t be hard to talk about!” We couldn’t agree more! Not to mention, we were giddy a FemmyCycle fan mentioned our cup in the comments!
We are confident that this coming year will be even better than the last, with the international movement to end period stigma and period poverty growing in popularity by the day. Thanks for joining the effort and celebrating with us this year!
